ABOUT

Born in Manchester, raised in London, now with firm roots in Toronto. I’m a potter and multi-disciplinary artist making handmade, small batch ceramics with a focus on ritual, joy and of course…magic. The original Spell Jar was actually made of glass, not clay. It was a mason jar I gave to my partner after we got married and inside I put flowers, sweetgrass and a poem. They called it my “Spell Jar”.

I love that objects can have more than just practical purpose. My favourite objects are instilled with deep emotion, that bring me comfort and joy. When I make special commissions for people I’m thinking about what emotion and ritual it’s going to bring into their life.

Spell Jar is all about that emotional magic

PROCESS / From raw clay, to the first firing, through the glazing process and the final visit to the kiln, the ceramic journey can take up to several weeks depending on the object. Rather than create overstock, I sell most of my pieces as small batch pre-orders or special commissions to avoid unwanted objects coming into the world.

PAST COLLECTIONS

The Bell Vase is a collaboration with the world famous Bellwoods Brewery in Toronto. When they asked me to make bud vases for their restaurant, I wanted to highlight the colour and beauty in their existing space, the diversity and inclusive attitude of the people who work there and, at the same time, give a nod to the brewery’s namesake, Bellwoods. These bud vases can be ordered as pre-orders for your wedding/special event. With or without flowers their colour, glaze melds and playful form are perfect for any setting.

“BEER IS BEAUTIFUL”

“THE CANDLEHOPPER”

Alongside the Bell Vase, The Candlehopper is the second commission from Bellwoods Brewery for their new dining and events space on Ossington Avenue. With both the candleholders and vases I wanted to create a sense of beauty and warmth, but also highlight the product Bellwoods is famous for, their beer! These candle holders are the perfect nod to the beautiful and delicious beer made by the Bellwoods brewers and their frothy, golden insides shine through like fizzy beer bubbles. Whether you’re a beer fan or not, these are the perfect addition for a cozy night at home or an elaborate dinner with friends.
